About Parry:
Parry at the right moment when an attack is thrown to mitigate damage and stagger an enemy. This will make a window of opportunity to land critical hits.
Generally speaking, successful parries are executed in the time between after an attack has been thrown and before the thrown attack lands. While not all physical or spell attacks can be parried, most attacks can be parried with different time windows.

About Guard Counters:
First, you need to block an enemy attack with L1 / LB. Then, immediately after, unleash your strong attack by prssing R2 / RT to perform the guard counter. Guard counter timing is easier to time than parries which make them an important technique to use and master.
The guard counter is a bit slow to execute, so performing it in the middle of an enemy's combo isn't ideal as you will be open to receiving damage. Know your enemy's attack patterns and only use the guard counter when you're sure they won't follow up with another attack.
About Backstab:
You need to make sure you are aligned directly behind the enemy in order to perform a backstab.
Once you're sure you're directly behind them, press and hold R1.
If done correctly, this will play a different animation than a basic attack and will either kill the enemy outright or down them.
You cannot perform backstabs with weapons equipped to your left hand.
About Ashes of War:
Wepon Arts or Weapon Arts are specialized attacks or moves that can be performed with various weapons. Each skill has a unique moveset tha will depend on which Ashes of War you have equipped to your weapon.
Ashes of War are classified by the type of weapons they can be applied to – general skills are those that can be equipped to almost any weapon, while unique ones are those that can only be used for a specific weapon.
These skills can be obtained by exploring the world or defeating enemies. Once a skill has been acquired, players can head to a Site of Grace to equip their desired skill through the Ashes of War menu, where they can select a weapon they wish to modify and then select the skill they want to add on.
About Ashes:
Ashes are items that can be used to summon spirit to fight with you in Elden Ring. Of all the Ashes, Legendary Ashes are among the strongest ashes in the game, often requiring high HP or FP costs to use but provide great utility in battle.
They will appear on the field and attack enemies, providing ample support for when you need to deal extra damage or when diverting the attention of enemies and bosses.
They have a health bar and can disappear when they've been beaten. Players can prolong the life of their summons by using healing Incantations.
