Elden Ring Mount

Torrent the Spirit Steed serves as a rideable creature in Elden Ring. He'll accompany you consistently, aiding in travel, exploration, and battles.

Torrent is unavailable for riding within dungeons and can't be summoned during PvP or Co-op sessions.

UNLOCK TORRENT IN ELDEN RING To access Torrent in Elden Ring, converse with Melina at the Gatefront Ruins Site of Grace. Accept her offer to serve as your maiden, and she'll provide you with the Spectral Steed Whistle, enabling you to call Torrent. Store the whistle in your quick-access items or pouch for convenience, as you'll rely on it often!

MANEUVERING ON TORRENT

Torrent boasts superior speed and agility compared to traveling on foot. Mastering Torrent's riding techniques significantly simplifies your journey through the Lands Between.

While Torrent's regular walking pace matches your footspeed, performing consecutive dashes will further double your velocity. Although Torrent's dash doesn't offer any invincibility frames, its swiftness allows you to outpace most adversaries, particularly when they're preparing to strike.

Torrent's leaps cover more ground than yours, yet the most impactful capability lies in his double-jump ability. This empowers you to access otherwise unreachable areas and evade certain attacks. Additionally, changing direction mid-air during a double-jump is the quickest method to alter Torrent's course while in motion.

MOUNTED ATTACKS

Attacking while mounted differs from fighting on foot. You're limited to wielding just one weapon, switching between right and left hands. Dual-wielding or two-handing a weapon isn't possible, so avoid relying on weapons requiring a Strength level that's only achievable when wielding with both hands.

Each attack corresponds to Torrent's left or right side, determining the direction of your weapon swing. Light attacks execute straightforward swings, while drag attacks involve holding the strike to drag your weapon across the ground before unleashing a forceful blow. Mastering the timing here is key, offering an effective approach against enemies. Moreover, larger weapons' drag attacks might even launch adversaries into the air!

Should you wield a Sacred Seal or a Glintstone Staff, casting a spell takes precedence over your right light attack. Similarly, using a Light Bow, Bow, or Crossbow will follow the standard control scheme for that weapon, albeit without the ability to use its Skill. Shields, Greatbows, and Ballistas prove ineffective while mounted and function as melee weapons instead.

MOUNTED COMBAT

Engaging in combat while mounted on Torrent can often be more advantageous than fighting on foot. Torrent's swiftness allows you to easily outmaneuver most adversaries or swiftly retreat for healing or ranged attacks. Moreover, Torrent boasts a substantial health pool, and low-to-ground incoming attacks may strike him instead of you, leaving you unharmed.

However, mounted combat might not always be ideal. In confined spaces, Torrent's speed could become a liability, especially considering the time it takes for him to turn around. Additionally, Torrent has his own Stance bar, filling rapidly with consecutive attacks, potentially causing you to fall off. If this occurs, it takes a while for you to recover, leaving you vulnerable to enemy assaults. Enemies wielding Torchpoles pose a significant threat while you're mounted due to their multi-strike attacks from a considerable distance.

Should Torrent sustain damage or if you want to pamper your trusty companion, healing items like Rowa Raisins, Sweet Raisins, Frozen Raisins, and the Flask of Crimson Tears can restore his health. If Torrent perishes, you'll be dismounted and stunned for several seconds. You can still summon Torrent after his demise, but it requires consuming a charge from the Flask of Crimson Tears and navigating a confirmation dialogue. (If Torrent was only stance-broken, he can be summoned again at no cost.)

MOUNTED TACTICS

When facing slower, larger foes: Approach, land a few hits as you near them, then swiftly retreat to avoid their attacks. As mounted attacks have a slight delay, initiating the assault as you close the distance is wise. Once your strike connects, maneuver past the enemy, using dashes if needed to evade incoming strikes. After creating distance, turn around, allow your stamina to replenish, and repeat the process. Maintaining space is crucial, as neither dodging nor blocking is feasible while mounted.

Against swarms of weaker adversaries: Stay on the outskirts and employ your Drag Attack to strike multiple foes simultaneously. Being ensnared in the midst of the horde will likely dismount you.

When dealing with ranged enemies: Lock on and approach in a spiral pattern to close the gap while evading their projectiles.

Confronting foes with swift attacks: Safely approach and continuously strike to disrupt their rhythm. If unable to defeat them with one stamina bar, ensure you retain some stamina to swiftly retreat to safety after engaging.

SPIRITSPRING JUMPING

As you traverse the Lands Between, you'll encounter towering, swirling columns known as Spiritsprings. These natural phenomena offer an interesting feature. While mounted on Torrent, you can leap into a Spiritspring's vortex, soaring high into the air and safely landing nearby. Utilizing Spiritsprings allows for safe descents from considerable heights, preventing any fall-related damage. These formations are frequently situated close to steep cliffs, facilitating seamless transitions between areas of varying altitudes.
